Quick Guide for Employees

This guide provides campus faculty and staff employees with the key information that they need to conduct their work as safely and successfully as possible.

Employee Return to Campus Support Desk

Between June 1 and September 1, employees will gradually be invited to return to campus for on-site work. For questions, campus staff employees may contact the Return to Campus Support Desk M-F from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 858-246-3570 or hr@ucsd.edu.

Vaccination

Free COVID-19 vaccines are available at the Price Center COVID-19 Vaccination Site to all UC San Diego employees. Appointments are required. We encourage all employees to get vaccinated as quickly as possible in order to protect the health and well-being of our campus community.

Daily Symptom and Exposure Screening

Required each day for employees who are reporting to work at a UC San Diego location. Recommended for those working remotely to monitor for symptoms.

Testing Requirements

  • On-site employees who are fully vaccinated: no testing required.
  • On-site employees who are not fully vaccinated: weekly testing required.
  • Remote employees who are not fully vaccinated: weekly testing recommended.

On-site campus employees who have not been fully vaccinated may fulfill required COVID-19 testing through no-cost, self-administered test kits retrieved from campus vending machines (no appointment needed); provider-observed, self-administered testing at Price Center (appointment needed); or provider-administered testing via drive thru (appointment needed).

For on-site campus employees who are completing their first-ever UC San Diego COVID-19 test, you must login to MyChart using your AD credentials and make an appointment at the Price Center clinic or the drive thru testing sites. Vending machines can be used for subsequent testing. Learn more on the Testing and Screening webpage.

Symptomatic testing will also remain available for faculty and staff. If you become symptomatic after vaccination, get tested. Our continued vigilance is important to the overall health of our campus community.

Exposure Notification

Add the California COVID Notify app to your phone to receive an alert if you’ve potentially been exposed to COVID-19. This program has the potential to help stop the spread of the infection and its use is highly encouraged, but it is completely voluntary.

Chancellor’s Supplemental Leave

UC San Diego employees are eligible for up to 80 hours of paid leave. This can be used as recovery time for those who have tested positive, those who are fulfilling isolation requirements and those who cannot work remotely. Note: this leave option is not available to Health System employees.

UC Expanded Paid Administrative Leave

Up to 128 hours, which may be used in blocks or intermittently based on need.

Emergency Paid Sick Leave

Up to 80 hours, which must be taken in blocks. Each block is comprised of one workday.

Remote Work

With supervisor approval, employees can take home their monitor stand, desk chair, keyboard and other individual equipment to better support their work-from-home environment. Additional equipment is available through UC San Diego Surplus Sales.

The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program offers campus faculty and staff confidential, one-on-one counseling sessions conducted via phone or Zoom. In addition, educational workshops and support groups are available on a variety of topics. To learn more, contact fsap@ucsd.edu.
