Information for Visitors

The UC San Diego campus is operating with enhanced safety protocols, which have been established in alignment with county and state guidelines to help protect the wellbeing of our campus community. As we begin to allow guests and visitors to campus, we will continue to implement measures to provide a safe learning and working environment for our students, faculty, and staff.

Do not come to campus if:

  • You are experiencing or have had COVID-19 symptoms within the past 14 days. See associated symptoms on the CDC website.
  • If you believe you may have been in recent contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.

Required protocols for attending a campus event

UC San Diego has resumed hosting indoor and outdoor events for campus and community members, including athletic competition. Please see further details about safety guidelines for event attendees on the Event Planning and Attendance page.

Required protocols for unaffiliated visitors (excluding events/athletics guests)

Unaffiliated visitors are individuals who visit the UC San Diego campus for a variety of reasons, including shopping/retail, seeing the Stuart Collection, or walking throughout campus. Unaffiliated visitors must:

  1. Complete a daily symptom and exposure screening (can be through your own employer).
  2. Adhere to all campus COVID-19 safety requirements, including the face covering policy.

Required protocols for invited guests (excluding events/athletics guests)

Invited guests are non-UC San Diego employees who are invited by various UC San Diego officials (e.g., faculty or staff) to visit the UC San Diego campus (e.g., invited academic guests, guest lecturers, speakers). See here for a shareable summary of Invited Academic Guest Requirements. Invited guests must:

  1. Complete a daily symptom and exposure screening (can be through your own employer).
  2. Must be fully vaccinated (or approved exception/deferral for UC employees).
  3. Adhere to all campus COVID-19 safety requirements, including the face covering policy.
Note: UC San Diego officials (e.g. faculty and staff) are not to ask for, collect, or store vaccination status or documentation from invited guests. The hosting UC San Diego official (the person who extended the invite) should share the above UC San Diego requirements with the invited guest.

Required protocols for on-campus special non-affiliates:

These protocols apply to employees of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Ludwig Institute, Sanford Consortium and others, as well as on-campus contractors and vendors at Price Center, Target and other campus locations. These employees must:

  1. Complete a daily symptom and exposure screening (can be through your own employer).
  2. Participate in COVID-19 testing at the same frequency as campus employees working on campus.
  3. Adhere to all campus COVID-19 safety requirements, including the face covering policy.
Note: It is highly recommended that on-campus special non-affiliates add the free CA Notify app on their mobile devices.

Required protocols for on-campus construction contractors and contracted service providers:

Employees of organizations such as EDCO, Fed-Ex and other service providers are required to meet all campus COVID-19 protocols:

  1. Complete a daily symptom and exposure screening (can be through your own employer).
  2. Adhere to all campus COVID-19 safety requirements.
Note: It is highly recommended that contractors and service providers add the free CA Notify app on their mobile devices as well as participate in COVID-19 testing at the same frequency as the campus.
